Belarus has created an effective legal framework for the investment businesses. They are guaranteed equal non-discriminatory protection of rights and interests regardless of the form of ownership and national status. The guarantees for foreign investors are provided both by the Investment Code and bilateral agreements of the Republic of Belarus and other countries. Currently 52 agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and 49 agreements on promotion and protection of investments are in force. They were signed with Austria, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, South Korea and other countries.
The Republic of Belarus is a party to the Investor Rights Convention (March 28, 1997), Investment Co-operation Agreement (December 24, 1993); in 1992 Belarus joined the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States (March 18, 1965) and the Convention Establishing the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (October 11, 1985, Seoul).
Belarusian legislation offers a possibility of signing an investment agreement with the Republic of Belarus, which allows the investor to enjoy extra guarantees to protect their capital and to receive extra privileges while implementing an investment project.
