AMMAN, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Jordan Armed Forces said on Wednesday that work is in the final stage to open a new camp for Syrian refugees in the country to absorb the increasing number of Syrians coming to the country, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
The new camp, which will be located over a total area of 220, 000 square meters in Mrejeb Al Fhoud area, can accommodate up to 5, 000 Syrian refugees, the armed forces said.
The source at the armed forces said the camp was built in line with international standards and specifications and includes several accommodation facilities, four schools, water and power networks and waste water treatment plant, among other facilities.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) donated 7 million U.S. dollars for the establishment of the camp, the source said, adding that the camp will be managed by the UAE upon its completion.
Jordan has witnessed a high surge in the number of Syrians coming into the country, especially during the past few weeks, when around 3,000 Syrians entered Jordan in average every day.
Jordan is home to more than 330,000 Syrian refugees.
