Double standards on nuke talks unacceptable: Iranian Official

MOSCOW, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Double standards on Tehran's nuclear program at the Sextet-Iran meeting to be held in Kazakhstan is unacceptable, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mahmoud Reza Sajjadi said Wednesday.

"We hope for a constructive approach with no double standards," Sajjadi told a press conference in Moscow, adding Iran "does not fear the West's hegemony."

He reminded that the United States had insisted on Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction and initiated a war, "but they didn't find the weapons there anyway."

"Americans have no grounds for accusing Tehran of producing nuclear weapons," the Interfax news agency quoted the diplomat as saying.

Sayed Jalili, secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, would attend the talks due on Feb. 26 in Kazakhstan's capital Almaty.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov fired last month on the postponement of the talks, calling debating over the venue for such a meeting "childish naughtiness."

The talks between Iran and the six major international mediators, namely the United States, China, Russia, France, Britain and Germany, have been adjourned in deadlock since a meeting ended without a breakthrough in June 2012.
