Meeting on Asia-Pacific border services cooperation begins in Russia

VLADIVOSTOK, March 25 (Xinhua) -- An expert meeting within the framework of 14th International Forum of Border Services (Coast Guards) of the North Pacific Ocean kicked off Monday in Russia's far eastern Khabarovsk city, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Delegations are from six countries: Russia, China, the United States, Canada, the Republic of Korea and Japan.

During the five-day forum they will discuss the results of work in 2012, ways of improving cooperation, share their experience on combating various security threats.

The forum in Khabarovsk is a unique opportunity for multilateral dialogues and for the development of coordinated measures to counter terrorism, transborder crimes, illegal migration, illegal arms and drug trafficking, smuggling of bioresources.

Experts' proposals put out at this meeting will be discussed at the forum in Vladivostok, which will be held this autumn.

North Pacific Ocean countries reached an agreement on border services cooperation in December 2000 in Tokyo. In 2013 Russia became the chairman of the forum.
