SEOUL, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired a short-range missile on Monday into the Sea of Japan, local media reported.

The DPRK launched the missile off its east coast into the sea of Japan between 11 a.m. and 12 a.m. local time on Monday.

"North Korea (DPRK) fired one KN-02 short-range missile today. South Korean military will closely monitor the North Korean (DPRK) military in case of any further launch," Yonhap News Agency said quoting Seoul military official.

The DPRK fired four short-range missiles on Saturday and Sunday into the same body of water.

South Korea's presidential office urged the DPRK to stop aggravating tensions on the Korean Peninsular after DPRK launched the fifth missile on the third day.
