WASHINGTON, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Former CIA Director Leon Panetta revealed the name of the Navy SEAL unit that carried out the raid on al-Qaeda mastermind Osama bin Laden at a 2011 ceremony attended by the screenwriter and producer of the movie "Zero Dark Thirty," an outside government watchdog quoted a draft Pentagon inspector general report as saying on Wednesday.
The Project on Government Oversight published the report. It said Panetta disclosed classified information designated as "top secret" and "secret" during his presentation at the awards ceremony, while naming the team leader of the Navy SEAL unit.
However, it is not clear whether Panetta was aware that the filmmaker, Mark Boal, was present at the ceremony, held on the CIA grounds on June 24, 2011. Approximately 1,300 people from the military and the intelligence community attended the event.
Panetta was the CIA director when the bin Laden raid took place on May 1, 2011. He moved over to the Pentagon later that year, and retired earlier this year. U.S. authorities has been investigating possible leaks in connection to "Zero Dark Thirty," which depicted the raid, since its release late last year.
