LOS ANGELES, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Walter Lee Williams, a former University of Southern California (USC) professor and the 500th person who was named to the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" fugitives list, was caught in Mexico and awaits to be returned to the United States to face trial, local media outlets reported on Wednesday.
William, 64, was arrested by Mexican law enforcement members Monday in Playa del Carmen along the Caribbean Sea area, just one day after he was added to the iconic FBI's list of fugitives.
The authorities of both countries are working on details to bring the allegedly child predator back to stand trial, according to FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
William, who formerly lived in Palm Springs, California, was a professor of gender and sexuality studies at USC until 2011.
He was indicted by a Los Angeles federal court of having sex with underage boys under the disguise of academic research during his trip to the Philippines and elsewhere in Southeast Asia including Indonesia and Thailand, according to FBI.
Ten victims between ages 9 and 17 have been identified, FBI said.
Williams fled Los Angeles about a week after returning from the Philippines after he was questioned by the FBI, according to Eimiller.
The FBI had offered a reward of up to 100,000 U.S. dollars for information leading directly to his arrest and conviction.
