TIRANA, Sept. 5 -- Albania's outgoing Prime Minister Sali Berisha on Thursday chaired his last government meeting, the 425th cabinet gathering in eight years of governing majority.

In his speech, Berisha said that in these meetings, the government has approved 7255 laws and decisions, concerning legal infrastructure of reforms in all fields.

He praised the work, devotion, professionalism and passion of Albanian civil servants, as well as foreign experts, in this period.

Berisha mentioned that two major objectives of governing majority in the eight years were integration of Albania in European and Euro-Atlantic institutions and the "Albania-Developed Country" plan. Other achievements of the right-wing government include Albania's NATO membership and freer travel of Albanians to the EU.

Berisha also stressed that the government has done everything possible to increase citizens' welfare.

He also said Albania will turn into an electricity exporter within a record time.

The prime minister said the government has also invested in the development of tourism.

"In recent years, Albania has turned into a tourist country. Today, Albania is visited annually by 4.7 million tourists and visitors," he said.
