DAMASCUS, Sept. 7 -- The leadership, or regional command, of Syria's ruling al-Baath party decided Saturday to stay in a "permanent session" in light of the growing threats of a possible U.S. military strike against the country.

The decision was made during a meeting between al-Baath and a number of other Syrian parties on the latest developments of the threats to Syria, state-run SANA news agency said.

The parties' secretaries stressed that all political disagreements should be put aside and all efforts should be united to defend the country amid the immense threats it is subject to.

Assistant Regional Secretary of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Hilal Hilal voiced confidence that all Syrian parties will stand hand in hand in the face of a foreign attack on Syria, according to SANA.

The Syrian administration is currently in the limelight as Washington is garnering support for its planned military action on the country. The threats of strike followed the rebels' allegation that the Syrian government launched nerve gas attacks in the countryside of Damascus in August.

The Syrian government strongly denies the accusation, saying it was meant to draw in military intervention in the country.
