
VIENNA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Green industry has now become a real option to achieve sustainable development, said Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Kandeh Yumkella in addressing the 14th UNIDO General Conference.
"One thing is clear, green industry is real. It is already here," said Yumkella, referring to the program that aims to accelerate green growth of the manufacturing and related sectors.
The General Conference this year is under the theme of "the new industrial revolution: making it sustainable," which highlights the importance of inclusive and sustainable industrial development strategies to reconcile environment, economy and society.
The five-day meeting, lasting till Dec. 2, brings together high-level government officials and representatives of the business circle from all 174 UNIDO member states, as well as senior representatives of many international organizations, experts and scholars.
