China has conducted extensive cooperation with other members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) at all levels and in various fields, and will make greater use of this platform to expand cooperation with other APEC members.
The 20th informal APEC leaders’ meeting will be held in Vladivostok, Russia from Sept. 8 to Sept. 9 under the theme “Integrate to Grow, Innovate to Prosper.” The theme for the 2012 meeting has something in common with the themes for previous meetings, and is in line with new international economic development trends. As the world economic recovery remains weak, Asia-Pacific economies must enhance integration and innovation for common progress.
In terms of integration, APEC members should carry forward the spirit of Bogor Goals, actively promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and deepen regional economic integration. They should enhance information exchange and capacity building on East Asian and Asia-Pacific economic integration and major free trade agreements, and support the APEC’s role as an incubator and a future provider of intellectual support for the establishment of regional free trade areas.
Regional economic integration also requires building a reliable supply chain, strengthening infrastructure construction, and deepening regional interconnection.
All members should earnestly implement the Supply Chain Connectivity Action Plan agreed by the organization in 2010, actively promote trade facilitation in the region, take practical measures to expand cooperation in such fields as logistics, transportation infrastructure, and disaster response, and provide greater convenience for cross-border flows of goods, services, and personnel.
In terms of innovation, the APEC attaches great importance to promoting technical cooperation among members and enhancing their innovation capacity. The organization pays particular attention to technological innovation capacity, and has made great efforts to promote the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements and to enhance the internal driving force for members’ economic growth, so more ordinary people will benefit from innovation.
