Flat market keeps rumor mill turning

Gossip about Chinese property tycoon Wang Shi and his actress sweetheart Tian Pujun has been circulating widely on the Internet this week.

Wang also happens to be the chairman of Vanke Group, one of China's leading property developers.

Gossip surrounding the rich and famous usually has a short shelf-live. But the discussion is still going on and rumors have also emerged that Pan Shiyi, another property tycoon and the chairman of SOHO China, has had an affair of his own.

Perhaps the story is sticking around because there is little else going on in the housing market. The September-October surge in home sales many had been hoping for failed to materialize and the market is even. Moreover, with the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China coming soon, leaders in Beijing are unlikely to reexamine policies for the home market for at least several weeks.
