Applicants in the January car license plate lottery hit 1.43 million by Jan 8, registering a new record and an increase of more than 60,000, the Beijing city office in charge of the allotment announced on Wednesday.

The number of applicants included new registrations, applicants who did not win the lottery, and those who deferred the chance, Beijng Youth Daily reported on Thursday.

The authorities will audit the information of the applicants and make results public on Jan 25. Qualified applicants will enter the license plate lottery on January 26.

In December last year, 1,360,000 candidates entered the license plate lottery, and the winning ratio was 1/71, a record low.
