BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The 7th China Bioindustry Convention, the largest annual event for the biotechnology industry in China, is scheduled to be held in the southwest city of Kunming from June 20 to 23.

The dates were announced by the event's organizing committee at a press conference on Monday.

Forums and exhibitions on development trends and technological research progress in the sector, as well as meetings between research institutes and enterprises, will be the highlights of the convention.

The event will serve as a platform offering networking and partnership opportunities for research organs and enterprises in the industry, said Yang Shengli, director of the organizing committee.

An annual report on the development of China's biotechnology industry will be launched at the event to unveil investment opportunities in various aspects of the industry.

China eyes turning the sector, which is among the country's emerging strategic industries, into a major pillar of the country's economy by the end of 2020, according to a national biotechnology industry development plan issued by the State Council on Dec. 29.
