Report on the rich in China released

Beijing leads nation on rich list

Overseas investment destination: Hong Kong, the United States and Singapore
Statistics say the wealthy Chinese are mainly in their 40s, with male to female ratio 1.27:1, and those with college or undergraduate level of education accounted for more than 60 percent. Meanwhile, only 1 percent of the wealthy Chinese are unmarried. Most of them already had children, accounting for up to 96 percent.

The survey shows that high net worth clients take freedom, safety, material abundance and a happy family as the core definition of wealth, reflecting the popular demand of China's wealthy people for high quality of life.

Some 56 percent of the millionaires are company owners, 60 percent of whom are seeing their companies prosper with steady income and profits.

Other source of high net worth population are from professional managers, full-time wives, technical professionals, investment professionals and in performing arts, sports, etc.

Due to policy changes in real estate, the number of millionaires making their fortune from property market investment fell significantly in 2012, the report found but provided no figures.
