China's top quality authority said on Monday it has demanded its counterparts in New Zealand provide detailed information and a report on risk evaluation on its dairy products reportedly have traces of a toxic substance.

Yesterday, the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said at a regular briefing that China would "continue to pay attention to and investigate" the case. It has met with the New Zealand Ambassador to China, and asked New Zealand to provide risk assessment report as soon as possible.

New Zealand Ambassador: The product is safe

On the same day, the New Zealand Ambassador Carl Worker apologized to Chinese consumers for the doubts caused by banning the use of dicyandiamide (DCD).

He stressed that he had made a special trip to the Chinese regulators to explain. The dicyandiamide is harmless, and New Zealand’s dairy products are safe. Banning the use of DCD has nothing to do with food safety, and doubts are caused by failure to have timely communication.
