China to increase 100 million 3G users

A meeting of "Broadband China" special project 2013 was hold by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Feb. 26. The number of broadband users is expected to surpass 25 million and China plans to increase 100 million 3G users this year, said the minister of the MIIT at the meeting.

China also plans to optimize broadband development environment, accelerate network upgrade evolution, strengthen industry coordination and improve users’ online experiences in 2013, according to the meeting.
  
China’s broadband service has been improved in 2012. This year, China plans to increase 1.3 million WLAN access points and provide broadband users with products surpassing 70 percent.

In 2013, "Broadband China" special project put forward new gradual goals. Network coverage ability continues to enhance. The increase number of FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) users will rise to 35 million. The country will increase 180,000 new 3G base stations and 100 million 3G users.

China will boost new home broadband users to 25 million and 18,000 administrative village broadband. Broadband usage covering about 5,000 middle and primary schools will be provided or improved.

The MIIT has organized six plans of action for the "Broadband China" special project: urban broadband acceleration plan, rural broadband popularization plan, rural school broadband popularization plan, application and innovation plan, broadband experience improving plan and broadband products development plan.

Wang Xiaochu, the chairman of the China Telecom, said China Telecom will continue to improve customer service, promote broadband service ability and accelerate technological innovation. The importation of IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) will also be speeded up.

China Unicom’s director Chang Xiaobing said installation and maintenance service will be comprehensively improved by the company. The general manager of China Mobile Li Yue expressed the plan of China Mobile to accelerate information platform construction in countryside and improve complaint handling service.

Miao Wei, the minister of the MIIT, said governmental sectors should build policy environment to strength market supervision and daily working mechanism.
