ACCRA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko, has called for the ban of Russel Mora from further refereeing.
"I want him to be banned," the 31-year-old Ghanaian told local Joy Fm radio in a telephone interview on Thursday, adding "I don't think he deserves to be in this game because he can kill in the ring. You can't trust him with anyone's life."
Agbeko said he was trying to put last Sunday's fight against Mexican Abner Mares behind him and concentrate on the rematch scheduled to take place on December 14 in Las Vegas, United States.
Mexican Abner Mares was adjudged winner by majority decision in last Sunday's Bantamweight contest in Las Vegas but the result was disputed with Russell Mora's refereeing called into question.
Twice in the course of fight, Mares got away with blows below the belt, only to receive harmless cautions from the referee.
It got worse in the 11th round when an obvious below the belt hit Agbeko who went down as a result.
Instead of deducting points from Mares, referee Mora counted it as a knockdown, resulting in a slim result to Mares.
Two judges gave the fight to Mares on 115 against 111 points, with ringside judge Ross drawing it at 113 for both men.
The performance of Mora has been condemned by many.
Angry Agbeko who described Mora as a racist demanded an immediate rematch.
The IBF ordered the rematch based on its review of the bout.
The rematch has been fixed for December 14 and a purse bid has been scheduled for September 15.
