Thursday marked Day Five of action in Liaoning Province, and London Olympic Champion Sun Yang was looking to make the final of the men’s 200-meter freestyle.
Sun Yang, who won 400-meter in his previous outing in the pool, was the hot favorite in the semifinals. Sun took the lead from the start, leading second placed Zhang Jie after the first 50 meters. He managed to hold the lead and finished the race in one minute, 48.09 seconds, the fastest in both groups heading into the final on Friday.
200M world champ Liu Zige grabs silver
On the women’s side the 100-Meter butterfly final set up a fierce battle. Lu Ying of Shanghai had the best start of all eight swimmers. Lu cruised to the win in a time of 57.04 seconds, while the current 200-meter World Champ Liu Zige took silver.
Li Xiaoxia leads Shandong to gold
To the women’s table tennis team final 2012 London Olympic champ Li Xiaoxia led Shandong against Shanxi. Shandong, who saw off defending champ Beijing in the semis, kept their stunning momentum going and didn’t lose a game in the final. They beat Shanxi 3-0 to grab gold.
The National Games will continue into Day Six on Friday in men’s events we will see the finals of individual archery, badminton team and cycling keirin. In swimming, gold medals will be handed out in the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter freestyle -- the last event Sun Yang is expected to win.
On the women’s side there will be golds in 10-meter air pistol, badminton team, cycling keirin and Gymnastics all-around finals. Winners of 100-meter backstroke and 100-breaststroke will also be decided Friday.
