Clarence Seedorf has vowed Botafogo will recover from an abrupt form slump and refused to accept the team is out of contention for the Campeonato Brasileiro title
The Alvinegro have lost their past three league matches to slip to third in the standings, 11 points behind league leaders Cruzeiro with 14 matches remaining.
"We are going to fight until the end. If Cruzeiro keep going at this rate we'll take our hats off to them," Seedorf said on Tuesday.
"What we have to do is win as many games as we can and not throw in the towel. There are still 42 points to be won and we have to be positive, courageous and not look back."
Botafogo, once a dominant force in Brazilian football, have not won a league title since 1995.
Their form during the first half of the year led many pundits to believe the championship drought could end this year.
The Rio outfit won the Campeonato Carioca in May and will play for a spot in the Copa do Brasil semifinals against Flamengo on Wednesday.
Seedorf, who joined the club from AC Milan in July 2012, is adamant the team can recapture its best form.
"Our opponents should be concerned because at any given moment we are going to play well again," the 37-year-old added.
