BEIJING, Oct. 2 (People's Daily Online) -- World No. 1 men's tennis player Novak Djokovic of Serbia cruised into the second round of the China Open tennis tournament at Beijing's National Tennis Centre Tuesday, putting away Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic 6-0, 6-3.
Djokovic will take on Fernando Verdasco in the second round after the Spaniard beat Indian qualifier Somdev Devvarman 7-6 (6), 6-3.
Top-ranked Djokovic’s run of 100 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings is in danger this week from Rafael Nadal, who defeated Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 6-2, 6-4.
Djokovic, who lost to Nadal in the French Open semi-finals and in the U.S. Open final, remains number one but with no points to defend between now and the ATP World Tour finals. The Spaniard will retake world No. 1 if he reaches the China Open final.
