Colombia hopes to become group leader for Brazil 2014 World Cup after the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on Friday announced that the first eight teams in the world ranking will lead the groups' round.
The Colombian national soccer team is in the fifth place of the world ranking with 1,180 points and it only needs one point to qualify for Brazil 2014, which it expects to get during the next games against Chile and Paraguay.
If Colombia ends as a group leading team, it will not face the strongest teams in the World Cup's first round.
Colombian defender Carlos Valdez told local press that FIFA's announcement is a strong motivation for their next matches and to strengthen the team's good image around the world.
"It is something special, we are excited with what is happening, the important matches we will play and what is most important is that Colombia can confirm its qualification and prepare well enough for the World Cup. It is a dream that has cost us a lot," said Valdez.
If the ranking keeps the same, the leading teams in the World Cup draw are Spain, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay and Brazil.
