Recently, many porcelain archaeologists, scholars and inheritors of intangible cultural heritages gathered in Jingdezhen of Jiangxi Province and discussed about rebuilding the Dragon Kiln of the Song Dynasty, expecting that China could make the Dragon Kiln produce porcelains again in the Chinese year of the dragon.
According to sources, typical porcelain kilns of Jingdezhen in history included the Dragon Kiln of the Song Dynasty, Round Kiln of the Yuan Dynasty, Calabash Kiln of the Ming Dynasty and Zhen Kiln of the Qing Dynasty.
The Dragon Kiln originated in the Period of Warring States and was a half-successive porcelain kiln. It was built with a certain slope and looked like a dragon, and therefore was called the Dragon Kiln. As the porcelain industry was developing and the kiln was improving, the length and slope of the Dragon Kiln both became perfect in the Song Dynasty.
In the meeting, the scholars and experts systemically researched and discussed the plan of reconstructing the Dragon Kiln of the Song Dynasty in Jingdezhen and provided information on the reconstruction plan and design drawing.
