A South Korean rapper is trying to break into the number one spot on the Billboard music charts. The single, "Gangnam Style" by South Korean rapper Psy was released in July this year and went viral on Youtube. Now, the music video has notched up more than 350 million views, making it the site’s most watched K-pop video.
Gangnam Style is now red hot all over the globe, and it has made the extraordinarily silly dance move from the video suddenly cool.
The addictive beats and this bizarre dance are now wildly popular all over the world.
On Thursday night, over 80,000 fans gathered at Seoul’s City Hall Plaza to watch and dance along with South Korean singer and rapper Psy performing "Gangnam Style."
The rapper told a news conference in Seoul last month he would perform the song topless if it hits No.1 on the Billboard chart. Even though he hasn’t achieved that yet, the overwhelmed chubby rapper removed his top and performed his signature "horse-riding" dance in front of tens of thousands of fans.
Elsewhere in Seoul, the fever of Gangnam Style is spreading. Hundreds of dancers from more than 20 countries gathered in the streets to dance "Gangnam Style".
Victor Peeters, Dancer from Holland, said, "I knew the dance. We knew some steps. We did them and they taught us more moves here, so we really enjoyed it, dancing Gangnam Style."
Sport starts like Gangnam Style as well. Olympics stars, such as Rythmic Gymnastics London Olympics' silver medalist from Russia, and bronze medalist from Belarus took on the horse riding dance.
K-pop viral phenomenon Psy, sold nearly 300,000 digital copies in the U.S. last week of his "Gangnam Style" hit.
Billboard said Psy remains in contention for the Hot 100's No. 1 rank next week.
