Beijing, Oct. 22 -- The Beijing 798 Art Festival 2012 themed with "Images of Art, Lights of Imagination," which kicked off on Sept. 22 and lasted for a month, concluded with substantial results at the 798 Art Zone in Beijing on Oct. 21, 2012.
At the closing ceremony as well as the awarding ceremony held on the evening of Oct. 21, nine artists and curators and 39 institutions received a variety of awards.
The art festival presented a series of themed exhibitions, union exhibits, music, movies, art seminars as well as nighttime festivities. The art festival also featured a unique light show, marking the first time that the festival has featured lighting artwork and offering viewers a spectacular display of visual effects.
This year's art festival, presenting nearly 100 exhibitions and activities, from movie screenings to outdoor concerts and workshops, attracted more than 700,000 visitors for the 798 Art Zone.
Of all the exhibitions, the Poster Exhibition of 798's 10-Year History achieved greatest success. All the relevant exhibition posters have witnessed the development of 798 art district and collected memories of 798 for artists as well as visitors.
Located in Chaoyang District of Beijing, the 798 Art Zone, also known as Dashanzi Art District, houses a thriving artistic community, among 50-year old decommissioned military factory buildings of unique architectural style. It is often compared with New York's Greenwich Village or SoHo.
The Beijing Cultural Development Foundation, Beijing Chaoyang District Cultural and Creative Industry Development Centre and Beijing 798 Art Festival Organization Committee jointly organized the festival. Officials from government departments and artists attended the closing ceremony.
