Bonhams to auction two cultural relics stolen from the Old Summer Place

LONDON, Nov. 3 (Guangming) – The British auctioneer Bonhams is scheduled to hold an auction Chinese Fine Art in London on Nov. 8. 360 items will be sold. It is said that, one of the two rare lots named "Imperial very pale green jade archaistic hanging vase and cover in the Qianlong years" and "Imperial white jade archaistic disc in the Jiaqing years" were looted by a British captain from the Old Summer Palace in 1860. The 13-cm long disc is finely carved and pierced in openwork, and the disc encloses four seal characters "zhang yi zi sun" (benefit for sons and grandsons forever) in four directions flanked by two pairs of phoenix. The estimated price of the disc is £60,000 - 100,000 (about CNY 610,000 - 1 million). Another lot's estimated price is £40,000 - 80,000 (about CNY 410,000 - 820,000).
