Avant-garde art exhibition is the main part of the exhibition production of 798 Art District; especially from 2005 to 2009, 798 Art District for one time gained the fame of avant-garde contemporary art centre and was regarded as the birthplace of avant-garde art.

This unit is mainly composed of the domestic avant-garde art exhibitions, including the 798 Art Festival, 798 Biennale launched by artists or management committee, as well as avant-garde art group exhibitions and solo shows happened in various institutions, like "Language/Fable" of Thinking Hands (2005), "'85 New Wave: The Birth of Chinese Contemporary Art" of UCCA, "Constellation: 798 Beijing Biennale 2009" curated by Zhu Qi in 2009, "Long March Project-Ho Chi Minh Trail" of Long March Space in 2011 and others; as well as the experimental solo exhibitions of artists like Zhang Huan, Gu Dexin, Chen Qingqing, Fang Lijun, Liu Xiaodong, Xu Yong Sui Jianguo, Wang Luyan and others.
