As the cultural marketplace in China continues to grow, more and more foreign shows are being presented here to appreciative audiences. At the same time, the Chinese arts and cultural industry is also working hard to promote more Chinese-made shows overseas. From Shanghai,

During the recent Spring Festival, four of China's leading tenors performed a concert in Melbourne, Australia. They sang opera, Italian songs and traditional Chinese songs that drew high praise from the audience. The show was just one of many Chinese theatrical and musical works that have been recognized internationally in recent years.

The Chinese drama 'Aquatique' won one of the top awards at last year's Avignon Theater Festival in France. It's a wordless dramatization based on Pu Songling's more than 300-year-old story of a water ghost looking for a way to re-incarnate. Its director says that so-called physical plays, especially ones with traditional Chinese elements, sell well overseas because there is no language barrier.
