The Water-Splashing Festival is a traditional festival for the Dai ethnic people in Dehong Prefecture of Xishuangbanna, Southwest China's Yunnan province. The festival is a part of the New Year's celebrations. It is observed as the most important festival by the Dai ethnic people in Yunnan. People splash or pour water over each other for fun as well as blessing to rinse away sickness and misfortune. The festival lasts three or four days.
Held during the sixth month of the Dai calendar, usually falling in mid-April of the Gregorian calendar, the Water Splashing Festival is also known as the Festival for Bathing the Buddha.
