中华人民共和国环境保护部，前身是国家环境保护总局，是中华人民共和国国务院的组成部门之一，属于正部级，主要负责有关于环境保护的事项.
2008年3月第十一届全国人民代表大会第一次会议通过决定将原国家环境保护总局的职责划入环境保护部。
它是国务院直属机关，它授权执行和依法落实环保政策和相关法规。
它的主要职责负责建立健全环境保护基本制度。拟订并组织实施国家环境保护政策、规划，起草法律法规草案，制定部门规章。组织编制环境功能区划，组织制定各类环境保护标准、基准和技术规范，组织拟订并监督实施重点区域、流域污染防治规划和饮用水水源地环境保护规划，按国家要求会同有关部门拟订重点海域污染防治规划，参与制订国家主体功能区划等等。
Introduction
The Ministry of Environmental
Protection of the People's Republic of China, formerly State
Environmental Protection Administration, is a cabinet-level ministry in
the executive branch of the Chinese government. It replaced the SEPA
during the 2008 National People's Congress sessions in Beijing.
Directly under the State Council, it is empowered and required by law to
implement environmental policies and enforce environmental laws and
regulations.
Its main responsibilities include developing and organizing the
implementation of national policies and plans for environmental
protection, drafting laws and regulations, and formulating
administrative rules and regulations for environmental protection.
Organizing the development of environmental function zoning, organizing
the development of various kinds of environmental protection standards,
criteria and technical norms; organizing the development of the plan for
pollution prevention and control in key regions and river basins as well
as environmental protection plan for drinking water source areas;
cooperating with relevant departments to develop the plan for pollution
prevention and control in key marine areas and participate in the
development of national zoning of main function areas according to
national requirement and so on.
