Historic leap on Chinese road

(People's Daily Online)

08:23, November 08, 2012

"The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is not only the most important political event in China since the past 10 years but also a great event in the world." This is a judgment by renowned international media.

From vast African continent to European Union and the United States, the two largest trade partners of China, and from the speeches on the United Nations General Assembly to television debates of presidential campaigns, the world had never paid so much attention to China and shown concern about its future direction like today.

It is a road opened and developed under crises and hardships and also a road broken though in queries and challenges.

International media tycoon Rupert Murdoch once said that the quickest way for a newspaper to become best-selling in the world is to put China on its front page. When "paying attention to China" is increasingly becoming an international consensus, "understanding China" becomes complex and complicated like China itself.

It is complicated because it created a new path of modernizing a country, changed the course of unidirectional evolution led by Europe and the United States and provided the development pattern of a new social system, which brought profound changes, drastic transformation and unprecedented challenges to China, the country with one-fifth of the world's population.

Different analyses have their own meaning but the development of China is a surprise, which subverted some people's prediction, overthrew the conclusion on the textbook and created the inherent idea.

Karl Marx once said that it cannot deviate from the historical stage to value any period of history. What kind of environment did China face from the 16th CPC National Congress in 2002 to the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012?

Since the beginning of the past decade, China, which began taking off since 1978, has been remaining undiminished economic growth rate, laying a solid foundation for future well-off society meanwhile coming to a crucial intersection.

The decade is a critical strategic period in the first 20 years of strategic opportunities and is also very important for China to comprehensively enter the well-off society in 2020. Therefore, the decade is the decisive period to realization of socialist modernization.

Indeed, the development of history is more thought-provoking than any textbooks. Despite within 10 years, those China and Chinese people had experienced and harvested will become historic achievements on the "Chinese road," marking the glorious period of the last stage and waiting for the beginning of next stage.
