BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's senior political advisors have showed their support for the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) to achieve the goals set at the just-concluded 18th CPC National Congress.

Sixteen members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body, on Wednesday delivered speeches on studying the essence of the national congress at a plenary meeting of the 19th session of the 11th Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, was present at the meeting.

The senior CPPCC members hailed the report of the 18th CPC national congress as "a political declaration and guideline" for the country to achieve new victories in building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The report, adopted by the week-long national congress that closed on Nov. 14, set down the goals of completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and deepening the policy of reform and opening up.

The CPPCC should give full play to its role as a major channel for conducting consultative democracy to promote the democratic and political development of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the senior political advisors said in their speeches.

The CPPCC should also innovate its mechanism for, and theories on conducting political consultation so as to put forward good proposals to promote the country's scientific development and social harmony, they said.

The CPPCC serves as a key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC. Members of the CPPCC are representatives of the CPC and non-Communist parties, people without any party affiliation and representatives of people's organizations and ethnic minorities.
