Jia convenes last CPPCC chairmen meeting

BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Friday convened its last meeting of the chairman and vice chairpersons to discuss the preparation for the first annual session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee.

With Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presiding over the meeting, it listened to reports on preparation for the upcoming annual session and other relevant issues.

The meeting deliberated and adopted the draft name list of the presidium, executive chairman, hosts of the presidium meeting, general secretary and vice general secretaries of the new CPPCC's first session, which is set to open on March. 3.

It also adopted the agenda for the session's preparatory meeting, as well as the draft of the organizational setup and tasks of the session's secretariat.

These drafts will be submitted to the preparatory meeting and the first meeting of the presidium of the first session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, respectively, for deliberation, according to the meeting.

"This is the last meeting of the chairman and vice chairpersons of the 11th CPPCC National Committee," said Jia. "Looking back on the past five years of the 11th CPPCC National Committee, we are greatly proud of the flourishing development of the people's political consultative cause."

Jia said that in the past five years, political advisors have united to consult democratically and offer useful suggestions and advice, contributing their efforts to China's prosperity and national rejuvenation.

He urged all involved to properly handle the work remaining for the 11th CPPCC National Committee and strive for a "consummate ending" of duties.

Recommended by attendees of the meeting, Jia will report at the first annual session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee the overall work of the 11th CPPCC National Committee.

Wan Gang, vice CPPCC National Committee chairman, was also recommended to make a report on the proposed management of the top advisory body in the past five years.

The meeting also decided that Lyu Xinhua will be the media spokesman of the first session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee.
