Chinese Special Forces get gradually transparent

(People's Daily Online)

In the first half of 2012, the Special Forces of China carried out the "Blue Assault 2012" and "Edge 2012" joint military training with the Marine Corps of Thailand and the Special Forces of Indonesia successively.

In recent years, out of the consideration of increasing its military transparency, the Chinese armed forces are normalizing similar joint military drills or training. This has played a positive role in improving the overall capacity of China's Special Forces.

Compared to the Special Forces in other countries, the construction of China's Special Forces started later. Although China attached great importance to special operations in different historical periods, China did not establish its first Special Forces unit until 1988. Its establishment indicated the official start in constructing China's modern day Special Forces.

Due to its confidential nature, China's Special Forces had maintained a low profile and were not known much to outsiders but in recent years, as China's military exchanges with other countries have continued to increase, the Chinese Special Forces are also emerging gradually.

In 1998, the Special Forces of China was invited to participate in the International Competition of Scouts held in Estonia for the first time and won the title "Team with the Most Outstanding Performance." From then on, performances of the Chinese Special Forces in various international competitions of the same kind have always been eye-catching.
