Chinese fighter jet crashes in Shantou, Guangdong

A fighter jet of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) crashed into a suburban house in Shantou city in south China's Guangdong province on Tuesday.

The crashed fighter jet was a J-7 that encountered a mechanical failure during a routine training operation near an airport in Shantou, China's Ministry of National Defense confirmed.

The pilot parachuted to safety before the crash, which damaged a civilian house and injured four people. The four civilians were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to the ministry, an investigation into the crash is under way.
