Chinese defense minister meets Kyrgyzstan counterpart

BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Defense Minister Liang Guanglie on Tuesday met with his Kyrgyzstan counterpart, Taalaibek Omuraliev, and both sides expressed hopes for closer military cooperation.

Liang said Kyrgyzstan is an important close neighbor and China attaches great importance to developing relations with Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that China will continue to support Kyrgyzstan to develop along the path it has chosen, and will make joint efforts to promote bilateral ties and bring benefits to the two peoples.

Liang hailed the good momentum of development between the two militaries, which enjoy frequent high-level visits and progress in pragmatic cooperation in all fields.

He added that China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to further deepen the two militaries' exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

According to Omuraliev, Kyrgyzstan places its relationship with China as a priority in developing foreign relations.

He thanked China for the assistance in strengthening Kyrgyzstan's defense and armed forces, saying his country is satisfied with the results of bilateral relations as well as military ties and is willing to expand cooperation between the two countries' defense departments.
