14th Chinese naval escort taskforce conducts open-sea training

The 14th escort taskforce under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) which is going to perform escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast entered the Indian Ocean at around 06:00 a.m. on February 24, 2013 after sailing for nine days and nights continuously through the waters off the Xisha Islands and the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea, Singapore and the Strait of Malacca.

Upon its departure from China's boundary line of territorial waters, the 14th Chinese naval escort taskforce which is composed of the "Harbin" guided missile destroyer, the "Mianyang" guided missile frigate and the "Weishan Lake" comprehensive supply ship conducted the training on such subjects as sea-and-air target searching, warship operation, navigation and mapping, early warning and detection.

Yuan Yubai, commander of the 14th Chinese naval escort taskforce, said that with the normalization of the escort of the Chinese Navy, all the Chinese naval escort taskforces explore new mode of open-sea training, improve new mechanism for open-sea comprehensive support and constantly strengthen the capability of the Chinese Navy in performing diversified military tasks.

During the voyage, the taskforce carried out training on 10-odd subjects, such as around-the-clock sailing and defense, taskforce movement and open-sea replenishment, joint target search-and-rescue and identification, reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance, and achieved desired effect.
