The 14th escort taskforce under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) found 18 suspicious small targets when it performed escort missions in the eastern waters of the Gulf of Aden on March 21, 2013, local time. Then the escort taskforce started the anti-piracy deployment; a helicopter took off and assisted a speedboat to verify the targets and drive them away. The special operation members successfully expelled the small target ships when they approached the merchant ships with high speed. At 2:18 p.m., the merchant ships left the dangerous zone with the help of the 14th Chinese naval escort taskforce.
