Top U.S. military officer to visit China in April: spokesman

BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, is scheduled to visit China in late April, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense said Thursday.

Spokesman Yang Yujun said at a press conference that Fang Fenghui, chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), has invited Dempsey to visit China.

Defense authorities from both countries are currently negotiating the details of the visit, the spokesman said.
