PLAN taskforce to take part in 'Maritime Joint Exercise 2013' sails into Sea of Japan

BEIJING, July 4 (ChinaMil) -- The taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) which is on its way to Russia to take part in the China-Russia maritime joint exercise code-named "Maritime Joint Exercise 2013" sailed through the Tsushima Strait and gets into the Sea of Japan on the early morning of July 3, 2013. The taskforce is scheduled to arrive in the Port of Vladivostok on the morning of July 5, 2013.

Located in the southwestern end of the Japanese archipelago, the Tsushima Strait is approximately 222 kilometers long and around 41 kilometers wide at its narrowest. It is of great traffic and strategic importance, as evidenced by being a maritime gateway to and from the Pacific Ocean as well as a gateway from the Sea of Japan to the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea.

In spite of the heavy fog and adverse sea conditions on the way, the command post of the taskforce organized the seven warships to sail safely. And meanwhile, the command post also organized all warships to carry out target-oriented training on such subjects as attack and defense operations against ships or aircraft, and confrontation in complex electromagnetic environment.
