ZHANJIANG, August 26 (ChinaMil) -- Vice Admiral Raymond Griggs, the visiting chief of the Royal Australian Navy, and his party visited the South China Sea Fleet under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) on August 23, 2013.
Vice Admiral Jiang Weilie, deputy commander of the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA and commander of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN, accompanied Griggs to review the guard of honor of the fleet and held talks with him at the fleet headquarters. Jiang Weilie extended his warm welcome to Griggs and his party for their visit, briefed them on general situation of the fleet, and reviewed the friendly contacts between the Chinese and Royal Australian navies, especially those between the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN and the Australian Navy. He expressed that the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN attaches importance to developing friendly relations with foreign militaries, and is willing to make joint efforts with various navies including the Royal Australian Navy to strengthen maritime exchanges and cooperation, so as to play a positive role in maintaining regional peace and stability and promoting regional economic development.
Vice Admiral Griggs thanked the South China Sea Fleet for its warm reception and thoughtful arrangements, and he hoped to take this visit as an opportunity to further deepen mutual understanding and promote friendly cooperation between the two navies, and also expected that the Chinese warships would revisit Australia.
During the visit, Griggs and his party also visited China's new-type guided missile frigate "Yulin" and amphibious dock landing ship "Kunlun Mountains".
