BEIJING, August 27 (ChinaMil) -- The "Peace Ark" hospital ship of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) has received widespread praise from local residents as well as peers of medical circles in Bangladesh since it arrived at Chittagong Port in Bangladesh on August 19, 2013.
The revisit by the "Peace Ark" hospital ship has aroused an "outpatient wave" in Chittagong city of Bangladesh. People coming to the "Peace Ark" hospital ship for medical services have queued up in a long line outside the entrance of the port since early morning each day. According to statistics, the highest single-day outpatient visits for the "Peace Ark" hospital ship reach 1,700 persons/times, with 31 surgical operations accomplished, while the total daily outpatient visits for all the 60 hospitals in Chittagong city are merely 6,600 persons/times.
Talaku Lisrong repeatedly claimed himself to be very lucky among the multitude of patients. In 2010 when the "Peace Ark" hospital ship first visited Bangladesh, Liu Baichen, the ophthalmologist on board, performed cataract removal on his right eye. When he learned on August 20 that the ophthalmologist for the cataract surgery on his left eye was Dr. Liu Baichen again, he kept saying he's so lucky to meet again the Chinese doctor who brought light to his life.
Imamu, whose mother just received a tumor removal surgery on the "Peace Ark" hospital ship, said that: "My mother used to reject operation because she's afraid she might die on the operation. After hearing about Chinese military doctors in Bangladesh to carry out medical services, she was willing to have Chinese military doctors operate on her. Now that the Chinese military doctors have helped her get rid of the torture of illness, they are our savors."
At the pediatric clinic on the hospital ship, Dr. Shalela, a Bangladesh pediatrician, enquired the patient in Bengali and then exchanged opinions in English with Dr. Du Kan, a pediatrician on the hospital ship. Shalela said: "Chinese military doctors are prudent and careful. They are knowledgeable. Seeing patients together with Dr. Du Kan enables me to learn a lot."
There have been 100 persons/times of Bangladesh medical personnel by August 23 boarding the hospital ship to either visit or participate in surgeries. Meanwhile, the Chinese and Bangladesh sides also held two academic exchange activities centering on topics including diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses caused by long voyage, training of professional spirit, promotion of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) techniques, and so on.
According to task commander Shen Hao, multiple forms of cooperation and exchange activities are conducive to deepening the communication and understanding between the Chinese and Bangladesh medical personnel. It plays an active and facilitative role in upgrading the medical and technical levels of both sides.
