CHENGDU, September 4 (ChinaMil) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 punched the juncture area of the Sichuan and Yunnan provinces on the morning of August 31, 2013.
Upon receiving the quake news, the Diqing Military Sub-command under the Yunnan Provincial Military Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army dispatched at the first time 500 soldiers and militiamen to rush to the quake area.
As of September 2, soldiers and militiamen from the military sub-command had given medical treatment to 160 wounded people, setting up more than 620 tents for quake-affected people, transferred 3,700 people to temporary settlements, evacuated 40 tons of valuable materials, transported 1.7 tons of relief materials, and rush-repaired and reopened 90-odd km of damaged roads.
