The China National Space Administration announced on July 4th that China's new communication satellite, "ChinaSat 6B," and "Long March-3B" carrier rockets, have already been transferred to the launch site. The preparation of the satellite, carrier rockets, launch testing controls and application systems, were recently completed. It is expected to be launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Center. This "ChinaSat 6B" communication satellite will provide high quality broadcasts of radio and television programs.

The "ChinaSat 6B" communication satellite is a new generation of communications satellites developed by France's Alcatel Alenia Space. The design's life span is fifteen years, and it is capable of holding thirty-eight transponders.

On December 5, 2005, the China Satellite Communications Corporation (China Satcom) and France's Alcatel Alenia Space, signed the satellite design and manufacturing contract. On January 20, 2006, China Satcom and the China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) signed the launching services agreement. This launch will be the 101st launch of China's "Long March" series of carrier rockets.
