POLICE have launched an investigation after a young woman snapped a photo of herself inside a public bath house in Jiangsu Province, and it was leaked and widely spread online, exposing nude customers behind her.
The photo shows the wet-haired author in a pink bathing robe using her mobile phone to shoot by a mirror. It clearly shows a small crowd of other female customers behind her, apparently unaware that a picture is being taken. Some wore the same bathing robe but several others were wearing nothing, exposing their frontal nudity in the photo.
The local newspaper Modern Express reported a bathing and massage center in Suzhou, in Jiangsu Province, had confirmed the photo was taken inside its dressing room.
The photo has been reviewed and forwarded online many times since Saturday, when it's believed to have been uploaded. Police have been alerted and the facility has been asked to offer help.
Wu Dong, a Shanghai lawyer, said the author apparently violated others' right of portrait and privacy. The victims could file lawsuits and demand compensation, Wu said.
The bathroom runner is also subject to some responsibility, the lawyer added.
Gyms contacted around Shanghai said photography is banned inside their facilities.
"We always reiterate to our staff that they should oversee misconduct violating the ban and stop them immediately," said a manager with Weider Tera downtown outlet. "As a facility rule, photography by any devices is not only banned inside the change rooms but inside the fitness zone as well."
