2 killed on sidewalk as truck lost control

A truck drove onto a sidewalk near a residential community in suburban Jiading District this morning, killing two women on the spot.

News update on xinmin.cn said the truck carrying vegetables lost control after avoiding a car and lurched into pedestrians on the sidewalk near the Yongxiang Jiayuan residential community in Nanxiang Town at 7:53am this morning.

Two local women chatting on the sidewalk were crushed to death while three others were injured, the report said. The injured people are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
