The Vitamin C tablets from Amway, priced at 347 yuan per bottle, are high-grade health supplements taken by many people. However, the Changsha Food and Drug Administration has recently found that the Vitamin C tablets sold by the Hunan branch of Amway China were short of weight in net content.
During a regular casual inspection conducted by the Changsha Food and Drug Administration on July 25, the surveyors found that the Vitamin C tablets, a health supplement sold by the Hunan branch of Amway China in Kaifu District, have a trademark that read "Amway China, approval number G20060193," and an outer packaging that read "net contents: 131 grams, 200 tablets per bottle." This does not meet the product standards approved by the State Food and Drug Administration. According to national standard, a vitamin C tablet should weigh 0.69 grams and a bottle of 200 such vitamin C tablets should weigh 138 grams.
The surveyors said that the mandatory health food standard of China has a 4.5 percent maximum deviation for the net content but the product in question exceeded 5 percent. Therefore, the surveyors immediately sealed them up on the spot and issued a notice, ordering the company to correct their illegal act and halt sales.
