The Red Cross Society of Northwest China's Qinghai Province has provided a list of how every donation it received was used after the deadly 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Yushu county in April 2010 that claimed 2,698 lives in the province, the Xinhua News Agency reported Wednesday.

Using the agency's official website, Sina and Tencent microblogging services, the public can track some 2.6 billion yuan ($417 million) in donations made by 90,004 individuals, corporations and organizations received by the provincial Red Cross since April 14, 2010.

The provincial organization also uses online photos and video clips to show how donations are being used at reconstruction sites, where some 1.85 billion yuan was been spent rebuilding homes and relocating local residents after the disaster.

Some 800 million yuan donated to the earthquake has so far not been spent.

Its use of public funds for receptions, vehicles and overseas trips is also posted online.

An official surnamed Shi from the Red Cross Society of Qinghai Province told the Global Times Thursday that they built the online information release platform right after the Yushu earthquake in order to promote the organization's transparency.

"We used to disclose donations we received through the media, but it became really hard to publicize every donation through this channel," Shi said.
