Beautiful China starts from healthy breath

In recent days, approximately one third of Chinese territories are shrouded in a mammoth yellow pollution belt. More than half of the 74 specially–monitored cities are heavily polluted. The situation in urban area in Beijing is most pressing with PM2.5 reading reaching 1,000. This serves as a reminder as to the importance of addressing the environmental pollutions and how significant it is to construct ecological civilization. What can we do to tackle the problem?

In order to restrict pollution to the minimum level, many cities implemented their emergency response plan for hazardous pollution by releasing air quality data, reminding people to reduce frequency of going outside, forbidding the use of cars and so on. However, could these measure root out the pollution?

During the Eleventh Five Year Plan period, by holding to the policy of “energy conservation and emission reduction,” China stressed the importance of environmental and ecological construction, thus the emission of sulphur dioxide decreased greatly. However, it is far from being enough. With the development of industrialization and urbanization, we are confronted with increasingly serious air pollution.

There is no denying that we should neither cling to the road of “treatment after pollution”, nor the belief of “poor air condition does not matter” when deal with the air pollution. The public should also raise the awareness of environmental protection instead of focusing on private interest. Only by forming a new cleaning and green spatial pattern, industrial structure, production process and living style, can we possess a harmonious and beautiful earth. The responsibility of protecting our clean air lies not only in the government, but also in every business and every member of society.
