A man who allegedly killed seven people and injured 18 others with a homemade bomb died on Wednesday despite medical efforts, local government said.

Chen Shilin, who was seriously wounded by the car bomb he allegedly built, died at 4 p.m. in the Zhanjiang City Central Hospital, said a spokesman with the city's Potou District government.

Fifteen of the injured are receiving treatment and two of them are still in intensive care, according to district government health officials.

A car carrying explosives blew up in the district's village of Litianshang around 2 p.m. Feb. 13. Five people died at the scene and two others died later in the hospital.

Before Chen passed out, he told police he had driven the car to the scene and deliberately set off the explosives.

Chen was allegedly seeking revenge following a dispute with his second ex-wife, according to police.

Most of the victims were relatives of Zhao's who were visiting for the Lunar New Year holiday.
